Tokyo Paralympics champion Avani Lekhara achieved gold in the para shooting world cup and broke her world record. She made a world record score of 250.6. This is in women's 10 m air rifle standing SH1 in France. SH1 category is for athletes with lower limbs important for competition in rifle events.
She broke her previous record of 249.6. The 20-year-old shooter secured a spot at the 2024 part Paris Paralympics. Her quotation is-
"Proud to bring home the gold in the R2 10M Air Rifle SH1 events" - Avani Lekhara
However, she was on the verge of missing the tournament as. Lekhara and her coach were initially denied visas. The issue was resolved after the intervention of the Sports Ministery.
Poland's Emilia Babska bagged the silver medal with a total of 247.6.
While the bronze went to Anna Normann of Sweden. In August last year, Lekhara bagged a gold at the Tokyo Paralympics. She became the first Indian woman to win Paralympic gold. She made a mark in India's Para games history and followed it up with a bronze in the women's 50m rifle 3 positions SH1 event.
She is the first Indian woman to win multiple medals at the Paralympics. P.M Modi also congratulated her for winning big at the tournament.

She began shooting in 2015 at the Jagatpura sports complex in Jaipur, India. Her father encouraged her to get involved in a sport. Avani's performance proves that no obstacles can stand in her way.
